The book has a very catchy title for a book on how to save money and still eat plenty. Written by the self-professed "Queen of green" - the premise is that all teach us to feed our family and friends for a very small amount of money in cash - the subtitle of the book is "You Don't Need to be rich to eat healthy".
Now I must say, I am a very good buyer. I am a stretcher budget back way, quite a bit of this edition are steps that I have been doing so far that I have had a driver license and was given the task of shopping for my mother - who hates to go into a grocery store.
I am a collector of coupon; Never enter a market without them and have combed the listings to see what is available to take advantage of most of what I have in my box of cuts. Also frequent Costco and use the entertainment book to save money on batches of necessary items of all kinds. Many use them for movies, dining out, gifts, haircuts, dry-cleaning (on the rare occasions when I need one) and a lot of other things. But I wanted to see if Jaci Rae could teach me anything new.
Most of the book consists of recipes. I love that the RAE has included the price of each ingredient show how she came up with the full and portions. It is wonderful that she has graded all recipes in kitchens. Appear to be abundant, somewhat balanced and varied for all kinds of diets, allergic restrictions and flavors. None of the recipes are easy to prepare and aware - in other words, great time occupied today over-worked chefs bent by family.
When I take the exception (sorry Jaci) is your call healthy meals. Many of the recipes are mainly made with white rice, ramen noodles, flame Organizaré and condensed canned soups. Yes, are all of them very easy and tasty but healthy? Even soups that are labeled as "low fat" and "low salt" are higher that normal diets on a basis which must include regular. Ramen noodle packets are fun and versatile-also contain a large amount of salt and preservatives. The quantities of white rice in some recipes are astronomical. It is hoped that it was a mis-print in the pre-published copy, but recipes known to use 5 cups uncooked rice for 5 people! Whoa Nellie! Once cocido-este is somewhere around 10 cups or more rice! The amount of protein normally stayed in more than 3 ounces a person. Now I am perfectly well with a portion of that small, but I can only imagine what my son and my husband would do when served a piece of chicken or beef that size - and my son weight watchers!
However, however, book of Rae is an excellent book for families who need to keep a very meager budget. She gives great tips for stretching a dollar - and once again, not only in foods. Their recipes are kid and touchy friendly eater, which is another way to stretch a budget. After all, if nobody nobody wants eat food that no matter how much saving.
